Happy Happy, Joy Joy

After years of submitting my illustrations to Spectrum (an annually published, juried showcase of  fantastical art, featuring digital, traditional and dimensional works) and not passing muster, my love and enjoyment of creating dolls seems to have been rewarded….”Brother’s Keeper” (aka Evil Bunny) will be published in Spectrum 17, due out this fall!  Huzzah!  This is also a win for my friend, and photographer, Steve Harrison, who will work with me until everything is just right, keeping both his patience and sense of humor throughout all my doll photo sessions.

I can’t help but think of this exchange between Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell from “The Power of Myth”.

BILL MOYERS: Do you ever have the sense of… being helped by hidden hands?

JOSEPH CAMPBELL: All the time. It is miraculous. I even have a superstition that has grown on me as a result of invisible hands coming all the time – namely, that if you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in your field of bliss, and they open doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.

But I keep TRYING to follow my bliss and they keep putting me in PRISON. What am I doing WRONG?!

But seriously—the Spectrum 17 news comes as welcome justification. The world awakens to your dazzling offerings. Congrats!!!
